TPC Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship

Continuing the tour of the PGA TOUR's Fedex Cup Playoffs venues is the third of four tournament stops, TPC Boston.

The Deutsche Bank Championship takes place next week, August 31-September 3. Although this wouldn't be the time of year to try and play the course, it should be considered one of the "places to play before you die."

A beautiful setting and tour-caliber course is all the avid golfer can ask. TPC Boston has those things, as well as a wide variety of family activities, from historic places to kid friendly activities.

East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta

Just took a look at the website for East Lake Golf Club, site of the Tour Championship and culmination of the inaugural Fedex Cup in about three weeks. All I can say is "Oh my gosh!" It's a gorgeous course, the clubhouse looks better than any home I've ever seen.

You can actually play this course, but there are a few things to know before you go. 1) call for a tee-time, obviously, 2) it is a walking only course, carts can be used only by persons with a state issued handicap certificate, 3) no cell phones or similar device. The standard attire (no cut-offs, collared shirts required, etc.).

If you want a spectacular, historic golf experience, near one of the South's cultural centers, Atlanta, East Lake is quite possibly the best choice.

Remember, the Tour Championship/Fedex Championship is coming in a few weeks, so you'll likely not get to play from here on in. Call ahead. Check out the website, it's great.

Golf Trip to the TOUR Championship

Be a part of history this year with a trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the Tour Championship, September 13-16. This year marks the first Fedex Cup, the PGA TOUR's new playoff system.

The first Fedex Champion will be crowned following the TOUR Championship tournament, held at Atlanta's historic East Lake Golf Club.

What can you do in Atlanta? Anything. There's the Braves baseball team, the Falcons football team, Underground Atlanta, Centennial Olympic Park, MLK National Historic Site, The Varsity (best hot dogs in the world!).

The golf is great, too. Schedule a tee time at the award winning Atlanta Country Club, the Bobby Jones course, or any of the tons of others in the area.

This trip to Atlanta could be many things; a sports-lover's dream or a great family getaway.

TPC Sawgrass: Jacksonville Golf for the Family

What golfer wouldn't like to play TPC Sawgrass, the golf course home of the American PGA TOUR's Players Championship? None. If they don't want to, they can't really call themselves "golfers."

At first glance, a golfer with a family wouldn't give a serious thought to spending hard-earned vacation time to travel and play Sawgrass. After all, what's in Jacksonville, Florida for the kids and spouse to do anyway?

Well, a lot!
