I love Canon cameras! I have the HV20 as my HD video camera and a little A590IS as my still camera. I am very brand loyal as every camera I ever received from them has been wonderful.

One thing to consider when buying the type of camcorder is what you will mainly be using it for. When I bought mine, I wanted to ability to go on long trips without having to bring my laptop. That directed me to the miniDV as opposed to the hard drive versions.

There are also a lot of discussions about miniDV vs the AVCHD format, but that was not my main reason for choosing the miniDV.

I also stay away from the DVD and miniDVD camcorders if you plan to do any editing. My brother has one and the main idea with them is that the user does not plan to do any video editing. It is a real pain to get the video off and into a usable format from the DVD based recorders.

Just my two cents on that. Like I said, I love Canon and just buy to what your planned use is and you will be thrilled!
